View larger. | Story In the near future, governments are supposedly at peace, but a shadow war, fought by private military corporations, is raging. You, along with a myriad of comrades and enemies alike up to 256 in all are dropped into this unprecedented war. To start off you must prove yourself as a member of your 8-man squad, fighting for one of the PMCs. With enough experience you may even become an elite fighter or earn the right to lead a squad, platoon or ultimately an entire army of players. Can you, will you follow orders? Either way your destiny and those of 255 other fighters awaits on the battlefield of MAG. Gameplay In MAG players take on the role of a member of a private military corporation (PMC), in a fictional Earth future. Like most MMO games, as well as some modern shooters, the ultimate goal of action is the leveling up of your character, in this case through success in combat against other factions made up of individual online players. At the initial level players choose the PMC they will be aligned with, the physical characteristics of their character, initial available weaponry, etc. and hit the battlefield with other squad members within a persistent online environment. Along the way you will utilize a diverse skill tree to develop your character's abilities and skills at tactics and weapons using experience points that are accumulated in campaign and mission play in the name of your faction. These points are given out in various increments for all manner of action, whether that be objective completion, or individual actions in combat. Once characters reach a certain level they are eligible to take on command duties. These duties range from leading an eight-man squad, all the way to overall command of more than 100 online players. Orders are communicated and strategy developed via voice chat and other functionality. Success in command positions allows for access to special "leadership bonuses" that not only can improve your abilities, but also in many cases, that of the individuals and units under your command. So, how does one give orders to human individuals online? Just as you would to AI (artificial intelligence) characters. The beauty of MAG is that players are free to ignore orders issued by superiors at any time. Experience point totals, the nuts and bolts of character leveling, are higher for successes achieved through orders that follow the chain of command though. War, especially that featuring multiple factions, can be fought in many ways, and in MMO gameplay world of MAG it's up to you to decided the path you'll follow. Private Military Corporations (PMCs) Bound by the terms of the terms of the Millennium Accord, which prevents defense forces from crossing borders, nations with the MAG game world turn to the services of Private Military Corporations (PMCs) to secure interests abroad. The leading PMCs compete for contracts across the globe. Each of these maintains its own battlefield philosophy and approach to military operations. It's up to each player to choose his/her loyalty. Some of the factions players can expect to see include: | Raven Based in Vienna, Austria, Raven Industries, GmbH provides specialized military services using precise, cutting-edge equipment and advanced tactical coordination. | | S.V.E.R. (Seryi Volk Executive Response) S.V.E.R is based in Grozny, in the Chechen Republic. Unconventional in their look and a fierce fighting style, S.V.E.R operative consist of former soldiers and private citizen, some with rumored criminal backgrounds. | | Valor Founded by former US Army officers, Valor Company, Inc. offers an experienced team of veterans drawn from US, British and Mexican forces. The company is headquartered in the Alaskan wilderness. | Key Features - Massive Action – For the first time ever, fight up to 256 real players online.

Just your everyday shooter March 10, 2010 zaps40 (PA,USA) This Game is great if you like running out and shooting everything. its a no BRAIN GAME just grab a gun and shoot..
In a word: M.A.G. is simply A.W.E.S.O.M.E.! March 10, 2010 C. H. Little (Acworth, GA United States) M.A.G. is one hell of a game! It has taken me from a mediocre FPS player, to a very good FPS player! I never was one for First Person Shooters, but began to play them when my oldest son came of age. When he went away to college it was a way for us to stay in touch and have a good time together, although we were many miles and states apart. He got me started with CoD:MW, I continued with CoD:W@W, & finally CoD:MW2. I was still only mediocre, getting killed much more often than making kills.....until MAG!
I think anyone who enjoys first-person shooters would thoroughly enjoy this game and the ability to choose any of three different factions, each having their own unique style and objectives, is a plus! Valor is more of the traditional Army-type faction, Raven is the high-tech, highly and coldly efficient faction, and S.V.E.R. is the more mercenary-type faction, which gets it's equipment from whatever means is available. I'm sure anyone can find a faction to fit their individual style and mindset and fit right in.
This is the first game where I have come into my own and have taken my skills to the next level! The online-only gameplay appealed to me from the beginning and most importantly, the fact that you can have 256 players (128 per team), or less, depending on the objective selected, at any given time is radical and makes the game as awesome as it is!!! I say this because you get a mix of really experienced players, as well as beginners, and because of the squad/platoon based gameplay, everyone can play and thoroughly enjoy themselves without becoming frustrated by being unable to make kills, or being killed off so frequently that you become discouraged. The ability of your teammates to revive you before you "bleedout" is really cool and immediately gets you back into the game without having to respawn all the time. Everyone can have their own objectives and goals while still being a team player.
Not being an avid, or rabid, gamer, I have given very few reviews because I frankly do not have the time, but I can say with perfect honesty that I would, and HAVE, recommend MAG to anyone who wants a game where they can jump right in with both feet and not have a very steep learning curve to master before they can begin to enjoy themselves!
TWO THUMBS, BOTH HANDS AND BOTH FEET, WAAAAY UP!
GREAT GAME March 8, 2010 GODJOEY LOW aim assist and 128 vs 128 epic battles make this game the best title to get.
MW2 was ok but 9vs9 and 6 vs 6 just doesn't cut it plus the severe AIM assist.
This games dedicated servers, awesome support by the developers makes it a great game. A lot of mw2 players just cannot grasp quick thrill kill moments. Some battles last over 20 minutes of constant action.
Being a pc gamer for 15 years nothing comes close to this but Planetside another sony title that was pc only.
BUY THIS GAME you won't regret it.
A different way to play March 5, 2010 Not Ansel Adams (Dave) (Pennsylvania) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Excellent game, but as others have pointed out, it's not just a get in an shoot 'em up, it actually plays better with coordinated effort and strategy -- like the real deal! The quality of play can vary dramatically based on who's on-line at the time you are, and how much they've been playing. The training exercises can get frsutrating for new recruits if there are a large number of more expereinced players in the same exercise. This can make it a challenge to work your way up in skills, as well as to just get the feel of the game. This part aside, try different load outs and change your approach to the game -- it's not run and shoot guns blazing. You won't last long if that's your approach.
This game is really not for everyone. March 5, 2010 Mike K. (AR USA) If you expect this game to be anything like Call of Duty where you can just jump in and go solo and be good at the game, don't waste your time with MAG because you will hate it.
First of all, Mag have a pretty steep learning curve and to even get the most fun out of it, you have to play it enough to know most of the basic how-to of the game. Namely knowledge of the map and how to actually play in each modes. For example, you might be able to play Suppression(team deathmatch) and Sabotage(take-the-base type of game) just fine because it's pretty basic. But when you try to play Acquisition or Domination, you won't play well if you don't know what you're doing or how to approach each map/situation.
I would say it probably take over 15 hours to learn all the little things to this game. Secondly, the communication is not really that important to enjoy this game. To win, yes. Having a mic and communicate with people on MAG actually make the game more enjoyable and easier. From my experience with the game, MAG have a much better and a more mature community than any FPS shooters out there at the moment. Most good/experience players with mic tend to be nice and actually teach newbies how to play. While in other FPS game, they would probably yell at you and/or try to kick you off the team for not knowing what to do.
I will say that, overall, MAG is a really well done game. It is the biggest FPS online multiplayer game on the console with maximum of 256 players in one single game and surprisingly have little to no lag at all.
If you can endure the steep learning curve or enjoyed the Socom series, then most likely you will love MAG.
