Little Big Planet is taking user generated content to a whole new level. While appearing to be another platformer on the surface, its actually a game with endless potential due to the plethora of user created levels, made accessible with a stellar level design kit. Its fun, the sackboy characters are entertaining, the stock levels are amazing and some of the user created levels are incredibly unique and memorably.
Story:
There is none. Well ok there is a story but its not really anything that's compelling or worth mentioning. Its simple and it gets you from level to level...loosely. But this is a platformer, do you really need much motivation to move from start to finish?
Visuals/Audio:
I heart my PS3 and this game looks fabulous. Its cartoony so don't expect something MGS4 cut scenes but this truly is a beautiful game to behold. So colorful and vibrant as opposed to many "bleak" looking games. I wish the flame animations were better but oh well, can't have everything.
I don't think I've ever mentioned audio in a game review before, its worth mentioning here. The sound track in this game is fantastic. I had so much fun with the music in this game. Its unique, fits the level designs perfectly, and absolutely enhanced the gameplay.
Gameplay:
Tons of levels to keep you busy and the difficulty does increase nicely. There are plenty of trophies to be found, minilevels to take on, as well as the user generated content. To find good user generated levels (because 95% of them are crap) search online for blog posts about the top levels, lest you waste time trying to use the user levels awful browsing.
I have to say the most frustrating thing about platformers is when you can't make a jump - particularly one that looks like you should make it. LBP falls victim to this fate. It uses "floaty" mechanics for controlling/jumping so the controls are NOT tight like a Mario game. To make matters worse there is the dreaded 2.5D bs. It will cause you frustration. You will fail jumps and die because the game could not put you on the correct plain. You have to just trust the game to manage the plains for you, which is an adjustment.
This is a game that should be played with friends on the same tv. I played online a number of times and have had mixed results. The game becomes increasingly fun when playing with fellow sackboys/sackgirls as opposed to single player. Be warned, when the levels get difficult, less experienced players will only slow you down and eat up lives. I enjoyed this difficultly but had to finish the game solo.
I'd like to see more from the user community or Media Molecule in terms of more levels. The MGS DLC was fantastic and completely added something new to the game, definitely worth the $5 extra.
If you like platformers, playing with friends, and want to see what others can create or try your own hand at level design then this is undoubtedly the game for you.

Littlebigplanet is the type of game you'll never tire of. The graphics/visuals are incredible, the main character (sackboy) is adorable and can be customized to suit anyones tastes..the biggest draw however are the evels..in addition to the main story, players can go online and play different user created levels, so there are literally an infinite number of levels to play through..you'll find faithful recreations of levels from super Mario brothers, to totally original and captivating levels. If you manage to get bored of this game, it'll be a true accomplishment!

This game is THE BEST......... if you enjoy playing games with your children then this is definetly the game you want to buy. You can play alone but its funner with four players. Lots of action and excitement. Theres never a dull moment when playing. We love this game so much we bought two!

This game is a must have if your looking for that perfect fun game to play with your kids. It's easy to pick up and play and have a great time every time you play it. There is so much to do and collect in Little Big Planet that you will never get bored of it and when you do need a break from playing scavenger hunt you can make your own creative levels and share them with people. There is just so much replayability with collecting items to downloading other peoples creations that you will be hooked!
What makes this a special game for me is how my 6 year old can play and have a great time and I can jump right in and there is always something to challenge me. Imagine working together with your kids to get that hard to get item or learning how physics work while you build your own challenges or fun zones. There are really no other games like this on the PS3.
Highly recommended if your looking for something to play with your family. Great story, music and graphical art style! We love it!
